Commissioning a Vigilant Warrior

Ephesians 6:10-18 [Amplified Bible]
[for Vigilant Warrior]

In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].

Put on God's whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

Therefore put on God's complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].

Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,

And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the [a]firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness [b]produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.

Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].

And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit [d]wields, which is the Word of God.

Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people).

Finding Timothy

“You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 2:1-3

The leadership in the congregation I am part of is very emphatic about training and mentoring the next generation of men and women who will carry on the vision the Lord has given our house. From our senior pastor to our cell group leaders, each one of us is encouraged to “produce their own kind”.

I have been a cell group leader for over four months now and it has been a privilege and a challenge for me to oversee 11 teenagers – young men who show such great potential for the Kingdom of God. I enjoy meeting with them as a group, spending time with them one on one, texting them, chatting with them, encouraging them, giving them hugs, sharing the Word of God with them. It is a joy.

However, there is another facet of this dynamic that is new to me – handling problems and individual issues of each young man. These are teenagers, man! Anyone who has been through puberty knows this stage of life is anything but stable. I’ve had to counsel some of these young men in the area of relationships with the opposite sex, parental issues, questions about their identity, evangelism issues and so much more (and believe me, THERE IS SO MUCH MORE. Hahaha. You have no idea how much I am learning about the power of prayer these days! HAHAHA).

In the midst all of these twists and turns, ups and downs, and ins and outs of overseeing these guys in their conundrums and guiding them to the right path – path which Jesus is on – I’ve also been given by God the task of finding “reliable men” to whom I can pass on and entrust the things He has entrusted to me.

I read in a discipleship booklet that every Christian should be asking two questions: “Who is my Paul?” and “Who is my Timothy?” Each one of us should be aware who our Paul is – the one who is mentoring us and from whom we receive training and instruction in the Lord. At the same time, we should also be on the look out for our Timothy – those whom God gives us to mentor, train and instruct.

In the interest of producing after my own kind, the Lord has been showing me potential Timothies in our congregation – young men who exhibit faithfulness, availability and teachability. I have been asking God if these indeed are the ones He has assigned me to take under my wing, so to speak.

God has already shown me my Pauls (I have more than one). And I have been greatly blessed, instructed and equipped through them. Now it’s time to pass on what I have to “men who will also be qualified to teach others”.

I believe Timothy is just around the corner.

Flush Your Past

Bob Jones: Past Disappointments and Expectations
[ another prophetic word from Elijah List that confirms what the Lord has been telling me in the bathrooms of the place I currently work - Mike ]

In a vision on August 31, 2008, Bob saw that many people were imprisoned by their lost expectations. What they expected out of their lives had not come to pass.

Past disappointments or expectations for our lives have imprisoned us. And when you look back to your past expectations, you have no vision for your future.

Your failures were steppingstones from your past; steppingstones into His presence and your future. It's time for you to flush your past and let it be gone from you. The Lord is commissioning you - giving you a mission; vision for the future.

There is a remnant left who remain; they really believe God and have kept their spirits and consciences clean. The Lord is not disappointed in them. However, they've become disappointed in themselves. But the Lord says to you that your disappointment was His opportunity.

So our past disappointments rob us from our future vision because God is saying:

"I'm not disappointed in you because of your failed expectations, for they were My opportunity to change your life for My purpose.

"Your disappointments or expectations were stepping stones to My presence and now - I'm going to demand that you flush them and look to the future - not the past, for those who look to the past have no future! I now have My Spirit in many of My people
."

In the vision, Bob saw that many of God's saints' consciences (or their spirits) were clean, but their minds weren't. And the Holy Spirit is dealing with the mind of those who have not come to the place where they thought they should be.

God says, "Their conscience is clean and now I'm going to cleanse their soul, because I'm going to use their soul and their spirit to reveal My Kingdom. So now I begin a work of cleansing their soul, so their soul might be a partaker of My Divine Nature.

"You're actually ready in the spirit. Now I'm preparing your soul, for I'm going to use both soul and spirit. And the soul is what I'm preparing.

"I just want you to know that I'm not disappointed in you and I've brought you to the place where your future in Me shall be fruit."
Amen.

Call to Intercede for India

I visited one of the blogs on my blogroll today and found this urgent prayer request. Please visit it and lift up our Christian brothers and sister in India in prayer. They need our intercession now more than ever. We can cover them in prayer as there is no limit to reach and the power of prayer.

Rise up and pray, intercessors!

DGen Lesson: Intimacy

Intimacy

Ø A feeling of being intimate and belonging together; close or warm friendship; marked by close acquaintance, association, or familiarity; relating to or indicative of one's deepest nature; is very personal; involves someone you can confide private matters to; involves thorough acquaintance through study or experience

Ø The key to intimacy is RELATIONSHIP

Ø God is constantly pursuing an intimate, personal relationship with you. He is a God of love and His very nature is love. He demonstrated this love when He started working on restoring what Adam lost in the Garden of Eden – intimate communion with God. Your Creator has been reaching out to you to restore your love relationship with Him

-----> "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” [John 3:16 NASB]

-----> “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” [1 John 4:9-10]

Ø God (being your Creator) commands you (His creation) to love Him. Jesus echoes this in the New Testament as the greatest commandment

-----> “Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” [Matthew 22:37-38 NIV]

-----> The NASB has this translation of the same verse: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.' This is the most important, the first on any list.”

Ø This command to love God and have an intimate relationship with Him does not come from selfish motives. Instead, it comes from a heart that does not only love you but also wants to bless you and give you all He is and has

-----> “It is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom!” [Luke 12:32]

Ø Intimacy is not a one-way relationship where God is the only one in pursuit of man. Intimacy means that we also lovingly and wholeheartedly pursue God. It is not a one-way relationship where only one party is doing the talking. True intimacy is a two-way relationship between God and man involving a two-way communication

-----> “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” [James 4:8 NASB]

Ø God wants you to have an intimate love relationship and friendship with Him. He wants you to spend time with Him and intimately communicate with Him, to enjoy fellowship with Him, to trust and follow Him, so He can give your life meaning and purpose.

-----> “For in him we live and move and have our being.” [Acts 17:28]

Ø Intimacy involves (but is not limited to) the following:

-----> a desire to truly know God [Psalm 63:1-3]
-----> a hunger and thirst for His presence [Matthew 5:6]
-----> transparency or complete honesty before the Lord [Psalm 51:6]
----------+ telling Him your feelings, fears, worries, joys, excitement, etc.
----------+ giving Him your burdens without holding back
----------+ confessing sin, asking forgiveness, repenting
-----> communication with God [Matthew 6:5-15]
----------+ talking to Him (in prayer, in thought)
----------+ listening to Him (through His word, circumstances, other people)
----------+ waiting on Him in prayerful quietness (being still before Him)
-----> a willingness to let God take complete control of your life [Psalm 37:5-7]
----------+ allowing Him to point out and expose areas in your life that are not pleasing to Him
----------+ asking Him to take over your circumstances, emotions and personality
----------+ letting Him truly become Savior, Lord and King of your life
-----> loving God [1 John 4:16 and Deuteronomy 6:5]
-----> obeying God [1 John 2:3-6]

Ø Your level of intimacy with the Lord will determine your level of growth in these areas:

-----> Spiritual maturity
-----> Emotional security
-----> Divine authority
-----> Revelatory clarity
-----> Enduring victory

Ø Your intimacy with God is the most important thing in your life. Everything else hinges on this one key factor in your Christian walk. If your personal love relationship with Him isn’t right, nothing else in your life will be right either.

Ø God seeks you out to have a relationship with you and it is in this relationship that He can strengthen, encourage and empower you; make you complete, give you rest and security, give you directions and guidance; save, heal and deliver you.

Concentric

Even people who don’t believe in God call out His name
Those who do, seldom cry to Him; it’s such a shame
Keeping the Almighty, Uncreated One in a box of glass
For people to nonchalantly gaze at as they casually pass

Minds bigger than hearts drown out the sounds of God’s spirit
We, with unstopped ears, try and try so hard to hear it
Above the noise of the nuisance of the routine everyday
Main thing needs focus, if only all else would easily fade away

We ought to lay down the burdens we carry -- they're useless
We should carry the burden He offers -- it's harmless
Just remove from your shoulder the yoke of heaviness
And take up the Master's yoke -- it's marked with lightness

Why shun the loving rod of a gracious Father
And aimlessly turn to the arms of another
Why run from discipline that imparts true love
When sons and daughters are trained and loved

Why resist His loving truth -- it's for all to see
Why replace it with glossy lies and refuse to be set free
We complicate the simple things and nullify the Strong
We call foolish wise and wisdom folly -- but we're wrong

He simply calls us to come to Him; that's all
He just wants to pick us up when we fall
All that we ever longer for is found in Him
But we, with wayward hearts, instead follow our whims

It's not too late, it's not too late
An open heart won't enervate
But usher strength and love to sate
Just sit, be still and patiently wait

Run to the Tower

Peter Spencer: "Church: It's Time to RUN!"
[from the Elijah List website]

Most recently the Lord has been speaking to me about failure. Let's face it, we all fall short of the glory of God in one way or another (see Romans 3:23). We fail and others fail us. And yet, hallelujah, God is perfecting us; and in the midst of being perfected, the Lord has given us a key to victory. It is our response to failure that is so important to the heart of God and to the Kingdom that He wants to bring through us.

Recently, I woke up feeling burdened and stressed in my soul. But as I was reeling in this heaviness, something in my spirit just clicked. I could feel the Spirit of God breathing life into me, like spiritual CPR. "The righteous shall run unto Him and be safe."

All of a sudden I knew what to do. I began to RUN. I literally took my burdens and my downcast soul and I RAN to the strong tower of the LORD! I was immediately invigorated, and gratitude, worship and freedom took control of my prayer time once again.

I had just received a revelation from the Lord: There is a key that unlocks the doors of anxiety and passivity that are keeping us shut-in from His presence. We can run to Him, and we will be safe and delivered. Church, it's time to RUN!

I Choose YOU, Lord!

"This day I call Heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live..." Deuteronomy 30:19

There is a tremendous authority and gift that God has given to us. It is our choice. Here, God is clearly saying to Israel and to us, "It's your choice, now choose life!"

The Bible records many times when David spoke his own soul into alignment (see Psalm 103:1-2 and Psalm 42:5). The Bible even says that David "strengthened himself in the Lord" (1 Samuel 30:6). He literally took charge of his soul and told it what to do. He began to speak TRUTH, and that truth began to bring alignment to his soul and to his life.

To say that it is humbling to think that a God who is completely sovereign and all-powerful would somehow give us a say or sway over our own situations is a gross understatement. And yet, a close examination of Scripture proves just this. When hard times and failure come, the devil and your flesh say to you, "Run away from God!" But God is saying "No! Run to Me and be safe!"

"The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it (Him) and are safe." Proverbs 18:10

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1

Somehow, completely afforded by the grace of God, we can choose to take our soul and run to Him. Hallelujah! What a powerful weapon that God has given us: choice!

Time's a Wastin'

So, we have the power to choose, and God is joyfully calling us to run to His safety. So what are we going to do?

"Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us" (Hebrews 12:1).

In this Scripture the writer is not saying that God is going to throw it off - no! It's us who have been given that authority. Yes, ultimately He is our breakthrough, and without Him we can do nothing (see John 15), but by His grace we can co-labor with Him; this God-given weapon is in our hands.

There are issues facing us almost daily: disappointment, fear, and the failure and sin of others close to us, and yes, even our own failures. The devil would like nothing more than to keep you weighed down, heavy and entangled with the thorns of life and the world we are challenged by. But God! God has given grace for you, and His grace is sufficient!

Just think: every minute that we are in the pit of discouragement is another minute that could be spent in fellowship with our God, hearing His voice, and moving with Him. There is grace in this hour to see Hebrews 12:1manifested in our lives on a new level. Can you feel the spiritual adrenaline flowing from this verse into your spirit?

God doesn't want you feeling separated from Him. Failures and disappointments will come, but we must take full advantage of the refuge we have in our God - the invitation to His table in the midst of our enemies - and we must RUN to Him, to His character, to His love!

It's interesting that God doesn't say the righteous shall walk to Him and be safe. No, they shall run. When issues arise that hinder, time is of the essence. God is lovingly beckoning us to a higher place of maturity in this hour. Take advantage of this grace given, and get up! Time's a wastin'! Brush yourself off, and RUN to the Cross, RUN to His Love.

Ok, so you've failed. Others have failed you. Maybe you think that God has failed you. He wants to be a refuge even from issues that you're having with Him!

We cannot afford one more second away from Him. His Love is too great, His Kingdom is too important, and His time is too precious. There is a vengeance that must rise up in us, a holy violence in our soul that shouts, "I will RUN to Jesus, I won't waste one more minute in this pigpen of condemnation, burden, and lies. I WILL RUN TO THE LORD!"

For some of you this means literally running, as a prophetic act. For others, it means just quietly speaking the truth to your soul and the distorted view created by your challenges and saying, "No more!" But the call is clear.

Church, it's time to RUN!

Transformation. Confirmation.

Kathi Pelton: "The Transformation of the Passionate Believer"

[from the Elijah List website -- another prophetic word that confirms what I have been sensing in the spirit for months now. God is moving and changing His people. And in due season, He promised I would metamorphose and bloom -- Mike]

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing." John 15:5-6

There has been much talk about a transformation or metamorphosis occurring in the Body of Christ throughout the world. As I pondered what this transformation looks like, the verse in John 15:5-6 kept coming to my mind.

I know that God is drawing us into a deeper and truer intimacy and passion for Him. Abiding in this passionate relationship is bringing a restoration to true Christianity and Bridal intimacy.

During this journey of transition, a friend of our family told me the true story of the life of the "the passion vine butterfly."

Looking at the Life of the Passion Vine Butterfly

Here are the facts regarding this amazingly prophetic little insect:

Entomologists study insects. Etymologists say that the word "butterfly" was originally "flutter by," but over the centuries it metamorphosed into its current form. The butterfly was once called a "flutter by," because as any amateur entomologist will tell you, this is what butterflies do.

However, not all butterflies exhibit this in-flight behavior. The "Passion Vine Butterfly" (Heliconius), flies in a slow, serene, straight line. This butterfly is so named because of its special relationship with the plant called the "Passion Vine" (passiflora).

The Passion Vine produces a cyanide releasing chemical that makes it inedible to most insects. But the caterpillars of the Passion Vine Butterfly are able to process the chemical without harm and voraciously eat the leaves of the passion vine. Not only do the caterpillars suffer no ill effects, but they store the poison in their bodies, thus becoming inedible to birds of prey and other predators.

This protection is retained when they metamorphose into butterflies. Since the Passion Vine Butterfly is unpalatable to birds, it does not need to fly in a "rapid and erratic fashion to avoid being eaten." Instead, it slowly flies in a straight, purposeful path from flower to flower.

There are mimics of the Passion Vine Butterfly that, due to coloration and general body shape, look very much like the Passion Vine Butterfly. These look-alike butterflies do not have the protective toxin in their bodies and therefore can be eaten by the birds - though most birds leave them alone as they are "fooled" by the mimicry.

However, there is one tropical American bird, the jacamar (galbulidae), that is able to distinguish between the inedible passion vine butterfly and the tasty mimics. The jacamar sits up in a tree and observes how the butterflies fly. If the flight pattern is slow and straight, the jacamar knows that even though it would be easy to catch, it would have a bitter taste and be inedible. If the butterfly has the rapid, erratic, typical "flutter by" flight pattern exhibited by most butterflies, it knows that it is not a Passion Vine Butterfly despite the colorization, and it swoops down for a meal.

I believe that God is calling us to eat and drink of our "Passion Vine," Jesus Christ. We are to commune with Him and be partakers of His Blood and His body so that we might live. We are to feed upon the Bread of Life. We are to abide in Him, our Passion Vine, and as we abide in Him we will be like those caterpillars that can digest this "cyanide" and metamorphose into a butterfly that is not susceptible to the predator (the enemy) that would want to take our lives. We will also be distinguished by our "flight pattern"...rather than moving in a rapid (frantic) or erratic pattern, we will move in a serene, slow and straight pattern (the rest of the Lord).

The Passion of Christ

I found this story of a Jesuit priest in Peru during the 1600's who saw the Passion Vine and the Passion Vine Butterfly as a symbolic picture of the Passion of Christ. Here is what he wrote:

"The crown of thorns, the nails, the color of Jesus' robe, the whips for scourging, were all seen in the complex structure of the flower now known as the Passion Vine Flower. This plant contains cyanogenic glycosides which release the poison cyanide. When the caterpillar of the Passion Vine Butterfly eats the leaves of this poisonous plant, it then has the ability to form a cocoon and become a butterfly. So too, when we accept the work of Christ's Passion; when we 'eat His body and drink His Blood,' we have the ability to be transformed into a new creation.

"And just as the Passion Vine Butterfly takes a straight flight path as it need not fear predators, so too, we have 'Christ in us, the Hope of Glory' and are now able to walk the 'straight and narrow.' Indeed, if we try to walk in our own strength, we will only be 'faking it' and the mimicry will not fool the prowling lion who seeks one whom he may devour - just like the jacamar looks for the butterfly that can't fly straight.

"Entomologists say that the mimics of the Passion Vine Butterfly use about 20% more energy in flight than the ones they mimic. Are we weary? Let us return to the One who says that His yoke is easy and whose burden is light...light as a butterfly."

What a wonderful picture of our metamorphosis. Through the Blood and Body of our crucified Christ, we are a new creation that now can fly straight and slow...and serene, not fearing our predators that seek to devour us. We have taken the communion of the "passion vine," Jesus Christ, and now we can enter into His true rest.

To Know Christ Alone

"For I resolved to know nothing (to be acquainted with nothing, to make a display of the knowledge of nothing, and to be conscious of nothing) among you except Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and Him crucified." 1 Corinthians 2:2 (Amplified Bible)

Recently, I was enjoying a conversation with a man that I highly respect. For years now I have watched in awe the journey of this man's life and witnessed his involvement in decisions that not only affect individuals but also nations; he is a man who moves straight and steady...always watching and waiting to see what the Father is doing. He has always had a deep intimacy with the Lord that causes him to "hit the mark" and to make wise decisions.

During our conversation, he began to tell me about the "plumb line" that he lives his life by. He said that each day (and in every circumstance and decision) he looks for the plumb line that Paul spoke of in 1 Corinthians 2:2, "To know Christ alone, and Him crucified."

He proceeded to explain to me how he is always searching for where Christ is and what He is doing and then he aligns himself as closely as he can get to that. Christ alone (through the power of the Holy Spirit) is his compass, his delight, and the wisdom that he lives by.

As he spoke, I entered into a deeper understanding that I cannot put my confidence in any knowledge that I may have gained, nor anything that I have been acquainted with; but instead, I need to daily find where Jesus is in each moment and every decision and then get as close as I can to Him. To only do what I see my Father doing...because that is where Jesus will be.

But the verse goes on to say, "...and Him crucified." Through the Cross of Christ, we have been reconciled to God and filled with the Holy Spirit who will lead us, not with the wisdom of man, but instead with the wisdom that comes only from God alone. By the power given to us through our crucified Christ, our weakness and dependency on His Spirit becomes the threshold for many to be carried into salvation, truth and relationship with the invisible God. The Cross is the threshold that we crossed to obtain eternal life, and it is the power that comes from the Cross that enables us to walk in confidence...slow and steady and fruitful.

Dependency on the Vine

We know that Christ is the true Vine, and just as the Passion Vine Butterfly depends upon the chemical that comes from the passion vine to keep it from harm, so we need to continually depend upon and feed upon the fruit of our true Vine to keep us from harm.

Apart from the chemical imparted to the caterpillar (that will become the Passion Vine Butterfly), it is not protected from predators, but as it feeds upon this vine it is infused with a protection that allows it, after becoming a butterfly, to fly slow and straight. No longer does it need to flutter up and down, here and there, trying to escape the predator that seeks to take its life.

As we abide in Christ and seek to know Him, we are infused with His precious Spirit that allows us to fly slow and straight, because we know that even our greatest enemy will recognize His Spirit who is within us.

I have to admit that much of my Christian walk has been spent "fluttering" rather than flying straight. I have walked in too much fear of the "predator" who seeks to devour our lives; forgetting that I have been infused with the Holy Spirit who is also like cyanide to the enemy. Our authority to fly slow and straight comes from the power of the Cross...from our Savior and Friend, the crucified Christ. As we remain in Him and go only where He is going and do only what He is doing, we will be kept from the "fearful fluttering" that attracts our predator's attention.

Ask the Lord to give you the confidence that the Passion Vine Butterfly moves in. We no longer want to live our lives "fluttering" in fear, but instead we want to live and move slow and steady, knowing that His Spirit is our shield and rampart. We want to abide in and near the Vine to keep our lives filled with His Spirit. If we are truly spiritual "Passion Vine Butterflies," then why do we fly as if we are imposters? Only the mimics have to flutter because they are not filled with the true chemical that makes them inedible to their predators.

A New Level of Surrender

"'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,' declares the LORD. 'As the Heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.'" Isaiah 55:8-9

Since the very beginning of 2008, I have personally felt as though I was in a refiner's fire where all the "precious" in my life is being purified and all the worthless is being burned away. The interesting thing is that much of what I thought was precious has been burned away as worthless. Many things: thoughts, beliefs and even personal convictions, God has burned away because they had become "laws written in stone" by me rather than by the wisdom of His Spirit.

I have been challenged again and again to walk in every circumstance by the leading of His Spirit of grace rather than by what knowledge I have gained through past life experiences...making laws from past successes.

There is a spirit of surrender coming upon many that is causing them to allow the Holy Spirit to rid them of all of their own ways...even things that seemed good. I believe it is the making of the new wineskin so that the new wine will not be spilled out as God pours it forth. We have seen that God is pouring forth new wine, but it cannot be contained in old wineskins.

In God's mercy, He is exposing all that would cause a bursting and spilling of His new wine. Though some exposures are quite high profile, I believe that all of God's people are going through personal exposures of the areas in their lives that have become brittle and old...or where we have strayed from abiding in the true Vine. Remember as we pray for one another that where sin abounds, grace abounds even more. We pray for grace for those that have fallen and for our own fallen places.

"God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God's wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:20-21

God is removing the stumbling blocks that are in the way of His Kingdom being established. He has called us to prepare the way for a great harvest and for His Kingdom coming to earth. He is preparing the way for the fullness of the Gentiles and the opening of the eyes of the Jews.

God longs to restore those who are bruised with sorrow for their sin. This is a time to pray for true repentance within all of the Body of Christ...for all of our wanderings and for all the areas that we have strayed from the purity of knowing Christ alone, and Him crucified. Let's look at Isaiah 57:14-19 from the Amplified Bible:

"And the word of One shall go forth, 'Cast up, cast up, prepare the way! Take up the stumbling block out of the way [of the spiritual return] of My people.'

"For thus says the high and lofty One - He Who inhabits eternity, Whose name is Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, but with him also who is of a thoroughly penitent and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the thoroughly penitent [bruised with sorrow for sin].

"'For I will not contend forever, neither will I be angry always, for [if I did stay angry] the spirit [of man] would faint and be consumed before Me, and [My purpose in] creating the souls of men would be frustrated.

"'Because of the iniquity of his [Judah's] covetousness and unjust gain I was angry and smote him. I hid My face and was angry, and he went on turning away and backsliding in the way of his [own willful] heart.

"'I have seen his [willful] ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him also and will recompense him and restore comfort to him and to those who mourn for him.

"Peace, peace, to him who is far off [both Jew and Gentile] and to him who is near!' says the Lord; 'I create the fruit of his lips, and I will heal him [make his lips blossom anew with speech in thankful praise].
'"

These verses are of great comfort to many of God's people in this hour. This is His promise of healing for not only the one who falls, but also for all those who mourn due to his fallings. We are learning as a people to rejoice with those who rejoice and to mourn with those who mourn. If we are one in the Spirit, then when one falls we all must own it and come to a place of corporate repentance. And when one is restored we can all rejoice in a corporate celebration.

God is calling us to abide in Him (the True Vine) and to drink of Him so that we might be those who fly slow and straight. No more fluttering, no more mimicking, no more fearful or frantic behaviors. It is a time of surrendering to the grace of His discipline and His transformation.

Will we allow Him to create in His Church the new wineskin that will hold the new wine? My white flag of surrender is raised and I want to go and drink from our Passion Vine.

Hate it! Leave it!

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. – Romans 12:9

I had this dalliance with pornography and I kept wondering how I could still be loved by God when I was deliberately disobeying Him. But He showed me and proved to me that He loved me still when He restored me in alignment with my destiny and His purpose for me.

During that time of living in sin, I had kept asking God: “Lord, why won’t You remove this weakness, this lust for pornography?” He didn’t give me the answer right away, but over the years, the Lord revealed to me that He couldn’t deliver me from something that I still had a love for. I had to have a HATRED FOR SIN before deliverance came.

I didn’t doubt God’s love at this time but I didn’t feel it and saw myself unworthy because the sin of pornography kept me feeling guilty and unclean. That's usually the effect of sin. The spirit of condemnation comes in heavy and lies to us about who we are in the Lord.

But when I finally decided to HATE SIN, that I would no longer offer my body and my mind to serve the god of lust and pornography, God came rushing in and removed my inclinations to it. The temptation is still there, mind you. Everyday the devil looks for ways to entice me with porn stuff, but He whom the Son sets free is free indeed (John 8:36). And I know I am!

Just last week, the Lord added this revelation about sin:

"In the same way that you have made the decision to worship Me no matter what circumstances come into your life, you can also make the decision to hate sin and stop living in sin."

It just takes one choice. We can choose to either love God or love sin. The choice we make reveals the sincerity of our love for God, and the intensity of our grasp on what is good.

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. – Romans 12:9

Like You Would A Friend

Seven Things That Are Non-negotiable for Pastors

Notes from the preaching of Pastor Ricardo Santiago during the G12 Conference in Cebu City, September 11, 2008

A pastor must live in the presence of God every day
It is absolutely necessary for a pastor to always be in the presence of the Lord if he is to do the work God called him to do.

A pastor must be a visionary
God always starts His work with a vision. Pastors must have a revelation of God’s vision and God’s dream for their lives and their ministries. Pastors need to have a clear vision of where their congregation is going.

A pastor must be a manager
Administrative skills are essential for pastors. They have to be able to institute order in their families, organize church affairs and conduct their personal lives in a godly and orderly fashion.

A pastor must be a leader
As leader of the flock, a pastor must know the details pertaining to his congregation. He must also be a person who solves problems and unites people.

A pastor must have a renewed mind
It is important for a pastor to not limit himself to the old methods of doing the ministry. Just as Paul encouraged the Romans to renew their minds, a pastor should be open to new things that the Lord wants to do in the ministry.

A pastor must be an excellent communicator
Encouragement, comfort and edification are some of the thoughts a pastor needs to convey to his flock. He also needs to teach and preach effectively so that people get a clear message from the Word of God and get changed by it. A pastor needs to efficiently communicate these things.

A pastor must raise up a team
Jesus set the example by choosing 12 men to be trained and discipled. He multiplied and produced His own kind and they continued His work after He went back to Heaven. A pastor needs to raise up men to be trained and who are able to train others as well.

Hidden But Not Forgotten

Victoria Boyson: "He Has You Hidden for a Purpose - You Are His Secret Weapon!"
[from Elijah List]

{This prophetic word is a great encouragement for me today because it confirms what I have been feeling in my spirit for quite a while now. God really knows when to lift up our spirits at the right time. He is after all the lifter of our head. -- Mike}

"My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place." Psalm 139:15

At the Verge of Breakthrough

Have you ever felt forgotten by God? Do you feel invisible? Does God seem to be blessing everyone except you? Do your expectations of God seem to meet with cold indifference from Him?

If your answer is "yes," then rejoice, because you are at the edge of a miracle! You are on the verge of a breakthrough! The door to your destiny is about to swing open!

The most difficult time of any birth is the few moments right before you deliver your baby into the world. You are exhausted beyond what you can even endure...you cannot stand it anymore. You have pushed and pushed and have exhausted all your strength. You want to scream, "I can't do this...I can't!" BUT you must! It is at this moment that you must push the hardest and exert yourself the most. You are crying, "I can't," and everyone around you is yelling, "PUSH!"

Then, somewhere deep inside you, strength arises! You have a determination now, where a hopeless feeling used to dwell. Now you cry from the depths of your heart, "I can," and "I will!"

You are at the verge of a breakthrough and perhaps you are tired of believing, but only you can break through to your miracle. Only you can give birth to your destiny! Only you can fight through to your dream's fulfillment. Your God will give you His strength when you have none of your own. When you fall short, He will pick you up because, "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak" (Isaiah 40:29).

Hidden Miracles and Butterflies

I have felt this way - I have felt forgotten by God. I wondered if the promise would ever be fulfilled - if God would ever open the door. I had been teetering on the edge of a breakthrough for so long that I began to doubt. "Would it ever really happen? Maybe God has changed His mind?" I was tired of waiting, of praying, of hoping in faith! I felt like a butterfly in a cocoon, hidden and forgotten. During that time I wrote this poem:

Someday, I'll Fly...

I've not been myself lately or for some time for that matter.
I'm not sure who "myself" is anymore.
I feel like a caterpillar inside the cocoon.
I'm neither a butterfly nor a caterpillar anymore.
I'm not what I used to be nor am I what I'm going to be.
I cannot go back to what I was,
or what was familiar to me.
I can't rush forward and be what I have not yet become.
It's a miserable place to be.
It's much like a baby in the womb;
you have to wait it out and stay where you are.
I hope every day will bring the end; I know God is almost done working.
I rejoice because the end is near,
but still the pain increases.
It's become too easy to not be anything, just a cocoon.
I want to give up, but You won't let me.
I'm not the caterpillar I used to be
and I'm not the butterfly I know I am becoming.
Becoming a butterfly is scary, painful and exhausting.
I guess I don't want to remain a nothing,
so I'll endure the torturous path out of this cocoon.
And I know, someday, I'll fly!

Years ago, we lived in a house with dozens of trees around it. In the fall, the trees were covered with cocoons. We would walk by them all the time without taking much notice of them. A miracle was taking place before us and we paid little attention to it.

But in the fall, our trees were covered with hundreds of beautiful butterflies. Our children would run through the trees and the butterflies would all take flight. It was a glorious sight to see hundreds of butterflies fill the air, sunlight reflecting off their wings.

Caterpillars are ugly little things, but butterflies are gorgeous. God loves to make something beautiful out of something ugly. God loves to take the ugly things of our past that satan meant for our destruction, and turn them into a powerful weapon He can use for our construction.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

Death Gives Birth to Life

God takes you through "ugly" situations only to turn you into something beautiful. The Cross looked like the end of a dream to the disciples. They expected their Messiah to come, overthrow the Romans, and establish His Kingdom on this earth. The death of Jesus looked like the end of all their dreams.

Christ tried to warn the disciples of His impending death, but when He spoke of dying, Peter declared, "This shall never happen to You!" (Matthew 16:22). Christ knew that this must happen. Like a seed planted in the ground must cease to be a seed in order to become a plant, He knew that His life on earth, as it had been, must end or He could not bring forth the gift of eternal life for those who would believe in Him.

"In a little while you will see Me no more, and then after a little while you will see Me, because I am going to the Father." John 16:17

His death gave birth to life! "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies'" (John 11:25).

The "cocoon" that you are in right now is the "death" that will give birth to your destiny. The painful situation you are enduring right now could be the launching pad for your future.

If you feel as though you are invisible, rejoice that you are. God has hidden you away to change you in secret, but soon He will pull you out like a secret weapon and show you off to the world.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven." Matthew 5:16

Your Heavenly Father will declare, "Look at what My grace has done!" The world will praise Him because they can see what He has done in you. You are His trophy! His reward!

Some may argue then, that you have no right to be where God has placed you. But the voice of your accusers will not even reach your ears, because you have paid the price; you have endured and you have overcome.

And "You will soar on wings like eagles" (Isaiah 40:31), and yes, you will fly!

This Could Be the Day

When the expected due date for each of my children neared, I would awaken each day with the expectancy that today could be the day that I would deliver this child. Each day I would think, "Today could be the day." I never thought to myself that it just could not happen today, because I knew my time was coming and that this day could be the day that I would give birth.

As each day ended without seeing the birth of my baby, I would feel somewhat disappointed. But once again, another morning would come and I would arise with hope from Heaven, remembering that this day could be the day. And I was prepared to go at any time; I had my bags packed and gas in the car.

Each day that you serve God and wait on His timing for your destiny's fulfillment is one day closer to its birth. As you near your time of delivery, you feel in your spirit that the time is near. Perhaps today is the day! You look around and see your Christian brothers and sisters receiving the promises of God in their lives - you are happy for them.

But when is it your turn? When will your destiny come forth in the way God promised it would? Each day we must prepare our hearts to believe that, "this could be the day He fulfills His promises to me," and then suddenly He does.

The longer you serve God, the deeper you will trust Him to bring the promise to pass for you. As you near the time of receiving the fulfillment of His call on your life, you can know that every day will bring you one day closer. Today could be the day you receive a great blessing from God. Today could hold the answer you have been waiting for.

Wait in faith through each day as a woman waiting to give birth. God does not bring you to the time of birth just to stop the whole process. He did not bring you this far to leave you now. He will not forget you! It will happen! And remember that "He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it" (Philippians 1:6).

"God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act?" Numbers 23:19

If He's promised it, He will do it!

Say this with me: God will do what He has promised. He has not forgotten me, for I am constantly in His thoughts. God is waiting to fulfill His Word through me. It will happen! This could be the day! God cannot lie; He will not change His mind. I choose to believe what God has told me and not the lies of fear and doubt.

He has you hidden for a purpose - you are His secret weapon!

This is the Hour

Jill Austin: "A Holy Invitation in This Hour"
[from ElijahList.com]

Haggai 2:7, "'I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD Almighty."

How Do We Prepare?

What must we do in this hour to prepare? How do you practically prepare for the end-time calamities prophesied in the Bible?

There is a holy invitation over this hour - a hand-designed, God-authored, initiated and written invitation to respond rightly to His desire to accelerate the work that He is doing in this hour.

The Church has had 2,000 years of teaching, and yet the Bride still has not made herself ready. What must we do in this hour to see the Joel 2 latter-day outpouring and the release of the sevenfold Spirit of Isaiah 11?

We do not need more information but impartation, because extreme times call for extreme measures. We are living in momentous days as God is preparing the earth for a mighty visitation of His presence and His power. This new season will be marked by shakings in the political, economical, and natural arenas.

With the world theater teetering on the brink of World War III, God doesn't want to merely shake external infrastructures (Haggai 2), but God wants to shake you to bring about the fullness of your destiny.

Today the Lord is releasing the Isaiah sevenfold Spirit in Isaiah 11:2, "The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord."

This Spirit will empower you to be a history maker. But we have to cry out to the Lord for an empowering of this Spirit so that we can be like that temple in Haggai 2 - filled with His glory!

If we will make His Presence our passion and purpose in our hearts to be ready, we can stand steadfast and unshaken even in the midst of end-time tribulations. The Lord is opening supernatural treasure and provision from Heaven, based upon the choices that His people are making. Activate your will now to align with God's!

The cry of our heart has to be for God's Kingdom to come and His will to be done in earth as it is in Heaven. Then when the nations rage, evil world rulers plot in vain, and people are confused at world events, we can stand confident and calm, knowing who our God is!

Prayer: God, I want to be a history maker! Shake everything that can be shaken in me. I don't want a religious routine, I rather want the high adventures of being a radical forerunner who will gladly give up all for You. Fill me with Your glory to touch this world for Jesus!

Revival

2 Chronicles 16:9, "For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him."

Revival is not born out of mass movements but out of a series of solitary decisions. Over the last several years, I have traveled to more churches and nations than I can count. Many have gathered together and called others to pray, fast and walk in unity.

First, the meetings are packed by the mounting momentum of trying out new ideas. Then, slowly, the meetings dwindle down; one or two intercessors are the sole watchmen left on the wall. The faithful few glumly look around at the empty rows of chairs.

We get discouraged when we don't see others manifesting the same enthusiasm for revival that we have. We worry, "How can our city be transformed unless the pastor of that major church is involved and all the meetings are filled?" But I tell you, beloved, God is not focused on the empty chairs!

Rather, He is focused on the chairs that are filled! You are there. He has drawn you there. He is going to begin His work with you. Revival starts today. Revival starts with you.

He has hand-chosen you, before the foundations of the world, to embark on a journey into the fullness of your destiny. Do you want to be His voice rather than man's echo?

If so, will you return to Him as your first love? Remember, God must first set our hearts ablaze with radical passion for Jesus. Intimacy is what ignites revolution.

Is the presence of the living God fully taking up residence in your heart? If that has not happened, then why are you expecting that to happen in some kind of public meeting? Revival starts with you! Personal transformation must precede city transformation. Let a revolution begin today - and may it begin with you!

Prayer: Oh Lord, I ask that You would radically revolutionize me. Cause revival to burn so deeply in my heart that others can't help but be changed! Oh Lord, You are truly all I want! I love You and I want to know You more.

Tenderize my heart again. I want to return to You as my first love. Where my heart has drifted and gotten lukewarm, return me back to You. God, I give You permission to do whatever it takes to make me wholly Yours. Set me on fire.

ADTT: Learning from God’s Generals [A.A. Allen]

A.A. Allen
September 19, 1936 – June 11, 1970

I watched A.A. Allen in the God’s Generals video with my classmates in the Apostolic Discipleship Training Tract (August 20 class) and his personality and presence was in complete contrast to that of William Branham’s. That is not to say one is better than the other, but merely an observation.

Asa Alonzo Allen’s life was a testimony of the fact that where you come from does not necessarily determine where you will end up. Coming from a family with an alcoholic background didn’t hinder God from using him for His purposes.

Allen became known as “God’s man of faith and power”. I can only imagine the price tag that comes with that label. I’m pretty sure he paid his dues. On the video the ADTT class viewed, it was evident that he had a preaching gift. He had eloquence as a speaker and a forceful conviction in sharing the Word of God and in moving in the anointing bestowed upon him.

He was also recognized as the most persecuted preacher of his time, with the likes of the Ku Klux Klan opposing him. Church folk and people threw charges and accusations against his increasing fame.

My observations on the life of A.A. Allen can be narrowed down to two positive and two negative qualities/characteristics.

Positives

1) It was said in the video that he knew how to build up faith to get people healed. This is important for a man of God moving in the healing, signs and wonders department because many people that come to healing meetings may not necessarily be equipped with “faith that can move mountains”. So building up a sick person’s faith to receive healing definitely comes in handy.

2) He sought and inquired of the Lord before going all out with his calling. Allen knew he had a calling for a great ministry but he needed to have the power of the Holy Spirit to be able to do it. So he fasted and sought the Lord. As a result He found God and God gave guidelines for him to follow in order for him see His miracle-working power at work. Here are eleven of the thirteen guidelines the Lord gave Him:

He must realize he couldn’t do greater quality miracles than Jesus.
He could walk as Jesus walked.
He must be blameless like God Himself.
He must measure himself to Jesus alone.
He must deny his fleshly desires with fasting.
After self-denial, he must follow Jesus seven days a week.
Without God, he could do nothing.
He must do away with sin in his body.
He must not continue in shallow, pointless discussions.
He must give his body wholly to God forever.
He must believe all of God’s promises.

Negatives

1) He defended himself and his ministry by exaggerating the miracles that followed him. I can understand – to some degree – why Allen felt he needed to do this. But there really isn’t any need to defend ourselves because it is the Lord who will vindicate us and fight our battles for us.

2) He wasn’t able – in my opinion – to fully entrust to the Lord the alleviation of his pain from arthritis and instead relied on alcohol. And I say that in a non-judgmental way. We all have weakness and areas of life that we continually work on and ask the Lord for deliverance from, and I can totally relate to Allen’s dependence on alcohol to numb his arthritic pain. (In my case, my crutches tend to be my emotional connections to people.)

Lessons

A.A. Allen is the second in the long line God’s Generals that I have had the privilege of studying. I have been learning much from these great men of God – from both their successes and failures. My hope – for myself and for my ADTT classmates – is that we get inspired by and surpass their successes (for God’s glory, of course); then learn from and avoid the mistakes they have made.

I believe these men of God lived lives that should serve as signposts that point the pathway to Jesus. We would do well to take a page or two off their books to benefit from their life lessons and losses, so we can become better servants of the Living God.

Unfolding Open Heavens

Jeff Jansen: "Eternity is Rushing In! Seeds and Scrolls of Destiny are Unfolding...."
from the Elijah List website

"The doors of Heaven are opening wider than we've ever seen before and we are witnessing the unfolding of the scrolls of destiny."

Eternity is Rushing In!

The Lord showed me recently in an encounter how time is running out and eternity is rushing in! In this experience I began to understand how, in the Book of Amos, the plowman could overtake the reaper - the eternal realm was literally overtaking time in the natural!

As the Body of Christ, we are standing at the threshold of a new era - the brink of a new age. The power for acceleration is in the timeless realm of God's Glory! When the realm of the Glory of God moves into the realm of the natural, there comes a great acceleration for miracles, healings, signs and wonders, and the release of creative power.

Nearly 2,000 years ago, the author of the book of Hebrews exhorted the Jewish Christians to leave the elementary teachings and principles about Christ, urging them to press forward into maturity (see Hebrews 6:1). Friends, today I urge you to come before the very throne of God with boldness and confidence - stepping into maturity - as you encounter new realms of the Glory of God.

These are the days when the Glory of God is being revealed in, and through, the Body of Christ. The Glory of this latter house will truly be greater than the former (see Haggai 2:9).

There is a corporate remnant, an overcoming Body of Believers, a Rising Glory Generation that will rise to new levels of kingly authority and administrate the dominion of the Kingdom of God with great power as it steps into the fullness of the measure of the stature of Christ. This remnant is the new man coming forth in the earth. We are about to see the full manifestation of the resurrection power of Jesus, as this Body rises to maturity!

Seeds of Destiny are Ready For Reaping

The Lord has shown me that we are in this time of acceleration; we have stepped into Amos 9:13, "...the plowman will overtake the reaper." All of eternity is pouring into the present, causing us to accelerate forward. Seeds that have been sown in the past, seeds of destiny, both good and evil, are full-grown and ready for reaping.

As the realm of eternity is meshed with the present, we are witnessing a culmination of events - loose ends are being tied up before the return of Christ. Things that would normally take ten years to happen will only take ten months - even ten weeks! There is a rapid maturity taking place in the Body of Christ as the cloud of His presence descends and blankets us corporately. This season is not simply coming - it is here!

Right now, through the Glory, God is releasing mandates, mantles, and miracles - the spirits of might and multiplication are being poured out on the believing Body of Christ all over the earth, for the purpose of world harvest. In these days, we will witness unparalleled demonstrations of the Kingdom of Power and Glory.

Additionally, in this time, the Lord is requiring that His people be set apart for His plans and purposes - extreme obedience and passionate purity are essential. Lifestyles of radical worship and faith are the fuels that will ignite revival fires among this generation - a people wholly consumed with, and consecrated in, the fiery presence of the living Christ.

The Timeless Realm of Glory

The Glory cloud is like a covering or a canopy that blankets the people - we all get touched. When the cloud of Glory is present, there is direct contact with Heaven - revelation increases, the seer realm is opened, gifts are activated, and miracles happen all over.

When God created Adam he was timeless, ageless, eternal, and set into the timeless environment of God's Glory. Man was not designed to be sick or to die, but to live in the Glory of God - the realm of timelessness.

An injury that would normally take weeks or months to be healed will be restored instantly when touched by God's Glory. Time is actually made to serve those who know and understand their rights as citizens of Heaven. When we experience the realm of timelessness, we experience the realm of Glory.

When we are in the cloud of Glory, we are able to declare the word of the Lord and see it supernaturally manifest. We are in Job 22:28, "You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you..." God has given us access to the storehouses of Heaven - provision, miracles, gifts, mantles, blessings, favor - you name it! As we encounter new realms of the Glory in this season, we will see a swift manifestation of the words we speak. Now is the time for us to decree a thing - it will be established.

Our Commission

We are being commissioned by the Lord to step into new realms of Glory through worship and high praise. As we do this together, we are going to see the Kingdom of Power and Glory made manifest. God's Kingdom is taking dominion upon the earth and is displacing every stronghold of the enemy. Psalm 149:6 says, "Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand..." Christ will reign until all enemies are under His feet (see I Corinthians 15:25).

Through high praise we destroy the plans of the enemy and bring to earth new realms of Glory not yet revealed. We are stepping into a realm of timelessness where the miracles in His presence are being made known to us in almost unimaginable ways. As we continue Heavenward, we are breaking the constraints of the natural realm and shaking off old paradigms.

The doors of Heaven are opening wider than we've ever seen before and we are witnessing the unfolding of the scrolls of destiny. Both the seen and unseen worlds are being changed from one degree of Glory to another, and all are being transformed by the ever-increasing Glory of God.

Let's Pray: Father, thank You for Your guidance into new realms of Glory. I pray that You would enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we would experientially know the inheritance of glory that lies within the saints. I ask that You would blanket us with Your tangible, manifest presence - blanket the Body of Christ with Your cloud of Glory. Let the cry of Moses resound in our own hearts: "I pray You, show me Your Glory!"

Father, let us continually see Your goodness pass before us. Jesus, wash Your Bride with Your Word - sanctify us so that we will be a resting place for Your holy habitation; You will present to Yourself the Church in all her Glory. Holy Spirit, teach us how to move and operate in the realm of Glory as this time of acceleration is upon us, that we may arise in unity of faith, in the experiential knowledge of the Son of God, with unparalleled demonstrations of the Kingdom of Power and Glory. We are the manifested children of God - a Rising Glory Generation.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
